DescriptionBlack and white photograph of Andrew D. Marshall with a 51st Troop Carrier Wing pilot during Marshall's return to Allied lines in Italy after crash landing in German-occupied Greece. During an October 7, 1944 strafing mission directed at German airfields near Athens, Marshall was hit by flak and forced to crash land. Suffering only minor wounds, he evaded capture and was rescued by Greek partisans. On October 14, 1944, he linked up with British ground forces, then returned to the 332nd Fighter Group. He was killed in combat over Germany in December, 1944.
