Ancient wedding ceremony
Ancient wedding ceremony
TitleAncient wedding ceremony
Description3x4x2'' ; 2 Resin figures mounted on a black base; In ancient times, young people were not free to choose their own marriage partner. Instead, parents arranged marriages for sons and daughters, and often, a couple did not know each other before marriage. This souvenir toy represents a new couple in a wedding ceremony. Two significant traditions are not included here. First, the bride's head would be covered with red silk. In ancient times, the bride would be lead by a slave girl because the bride could not see anything in front of her. She could only see her feet. The bridegroom would remove the silk after the wedding ceremony. Second, the hands on both the bride and the bridegroom would be bound in a red silk ribbon with a big red silk flower in the middle. It was said that the bride and the bridegroom were connected through a string for a predestined relationship even when they were apart.--4/05 - statues remounted on base and left collar of male figure repaired.
