Description	4 x 1.5 x 1.5' ; ; plaster statue; This miniature is a replica of a kneeling soldier, ready to shoot. It is one of an estimated 8,000 life-sized terra-cotta soldiers buried in the elaborate tomb of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor. The tomb is outside of the city of Lin Tong, in the Xian Province. The original statues were lined up in military formation with horses and weapons, which symbolized the emperor's quest for immortality and power. Each warrior was handmade by coil method, then smoothed over for the inscription of armor details. After being fired in a kiln and cooled, the soldiers were painted with mineral and charcoal pigments. The tomb figures and models of other goods are usually seen as mingqi (spirit articles) that recreated and maintained the deceaseds EArthly reality.
